🌟 Agentic Workflows: The Future of AI in Business and Education 🌟
Six months ago, I heard Andrew Ng speak about Agentic Workflows and how they could change the way we use AI in business. The concept seemed interesting, but I wasn’t sure how it would play out practically. Fast forward to today, and the conversation is only getting louder!
💡 What Are Agentic Workflows? Instead of generating an answer in one step, agentic workflows use AI in a more human-like process: 1️⃣ Reflect 2️⃣ Research 3️⃣ Plan 4️⃣ Iterate
This allows AI to deliver better results, just like how humans revise and improve their work over time.
🚀 The Business Implications Recently, Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture, said, "Agentic architecture is real." When I heard that, it hit me—this is the future we need to prepare for.
IBM has also been pivotal in deepening my understanding of this concept. In a recent discussion featuring Susan Emerson from Salesforce and Nick Renotte from IBM Client Engineering, they explored how generative AI is transforming virtual agents. It's not just about chatbots anymore; it's about building AI agents that are actually helpful and can handle complex tasks as they become faster and more accurate with generative AI.
They highlighted the evolution from rule-based chatbots to AI agents powered by generative AI, which can:
Handle long-tail questions with personalized, accurate responses.
Leverage data effectively to improve customer support.
Incorporate governance and guardrails to ensure accuracy and compliance.
🌐 Impact Across Industries In industries like retail, finance, and manufacturing, AI agents are already transforming decision-making. By combining AI agents with data-driven systems, businesses can automate complex processes, allowing human teams to focus on high-value work.
👩🏫 For Educators & Students Business schools and MIS programs must teach students to collaborate with AI agents and leverage them in decision-making. IBM's emphasis on data as the foundation of AI underscores the need for data literacy in future curricula. Future skills will focus on designing workflows, managing AI-driven processes, and ensuring proper governance.
🔑 For the Workforce Today’s professionals will need to continuously upskill to work alongside AI systems. Adaptability, data literacy, and collaboration with AI will be key skills as more companies adopt agentic workflows. Understanding how to monitor, test, and govern AI agents, as discussed by IBM, will be crucial.
👉 Agentic workflows aren’t just a buzzword; they’re shaping the future of work.
I'm eager to hear your thoughts and experiences with agentic workflows. Are you ready for the shift?
